Flexible Term Employee

A flexible term employee is an individual hired by the Laboratory for assignments
anticipated to be of limited duration and may not exceed a total of six
(6) years without a six-month break in service, unless a one-time extension
for a period of up to one year is granted by the Laboratory Director. (See
Procedure A.III.6.6)
PPPM Section A.III.6.6. Flexible Term Employee - Procedure
Purpose
A flexible term employee is an individual hired by the Laboratory for assignments
anticipated to be of limited duration and to provide flexibility in meeting
staffing needs.
Duration of Employment
A flexible term employee's service may not exceed a total of six (6) years
without a six-month break in service, unless an extension is granted by
the Laboratory Director. The extension can be granted one time for a period
up to one year.
Terms of Employment
A flexible term employee's employment is at will and may be terminated with
or without cause at any time during the term of the employment. If the Laboratory
elects to terminate the employment prior to the specified ending date, the
flexible term employee will receive either 30 days' notice or pay in lieu
of notice as determined by the Laboratory. If the Laboratory does not elect
to end the flexible term employee's employment before its established end
date, then employment will end automatically on the specified ending date.
A flexible term employee is eligible for vacation benefits, sick leave benefits,
and holiday pay; the appointment will be established and maintained at 50%
time or greater to meet the eligibility requirements for pension and health
and welfare benefits coverage.
A flexible term employee is eligible for salary increases in accordance
with salary management guidelines established for this employment category.
A flexible term employee is subject to the same personnel policies as all
other employees, except for the following policies which do not apply:
